Jack C. Smith Died Tuesday

Jack (John) Charles Smith, 85, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 27 at the Grundy Co. Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. He had been a patient there since September 9. Mr. Smith had been in failing health for several months.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the First Baptist Church at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. J. C. Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.

He was born September 28, 1885, at Rockton, Illinois, the son of John and Jennie Scott Smith. Jack Smith and Ruby Elliott were married January 1, 1910 at the S. B. Elliott farm home in Lincoln township. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in Black Hawk county until 1922 when they returned to the Elliott farm. They remained on the Lincoln township farm until 1937, then moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Smith was a painter by trade. Mrs. Smith passed away May 25, 1964.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Dorothy) Bee and three grandclddlren, Daryl, Debra and Dallas Bee, also one brother, Tracy Smith of 1013 Mulberry, Waterloo and one sister, Mrs. Fred (Margaret) Fitch of 810 Western, Waterloo. Two brothers preceded him in death.

The Ferree-Oltmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
