Funeral Thursday For Almeda Davis, School Teacher For 49 Years
Miss Almeda Davis, 79, who was a Grundy Center elementary school teacher for 49 years until her retirement in 1958, died Monday evening at Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist church, with Rev. J. C. Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery. The Ferree Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Davis was born December 10, 1888, in Grundy county, the daughter of Lawson and Bertha Litzkow Davis.
She was graduated from Grundy Center high school in 1908 and attended both the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Colorado. She taught school here from 1909 to 1958.
Miss Davis was a member of the First Baptist church of Grundy Center.
Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Dorothy Reynolds, of Waterloo, and a nephew, Lee Davis, Fresno, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruth Davis, who also taught school at Grundy Center for many years until her death in 1958, and one brother, Emery Davis.
