Services Sunday For Ruth Davis
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist church in Grundy Center for Ruth Davis, age 65, who died at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Thursday morning. She had been in failing health for many months. Cancer was the cause of death.
Miss Davis was born July 12, 1893, in Lincoln township, Grundy county, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Davis. Following her graduation from high school, she began teaching in the rural schools in Grundy county in 1912.
She attended Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls and the University of Colorado at Boulder, returning to Grundy Center in 1920 to teach in the elementary school.
During the 43 years that she taught school in this community, she helped educate more than 1500 youngsters, many of whom remember her for the fine start which she gave them in the first grade in the Grundy Center elementary school. Miss Davis was one of the finest teachers in the Grundy Center school system; it was with considerable regret two years ago that the board of education accepted her resignation from the faculty because of her ill health.
Miss Davis had been active in many ways in the First Baptist Church until the time of her death. Many shut-ins knew her as a source of comfort and cheer thru her letters and visits.
Surviving are one sister, Almeda Davis of Grundy Center; one niece, Mrs. Louis Reynolds of Waterloo, two nephews, Edwin Davis of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lee Davis of Manhatten Beach, Calif.
