Death Comes to Mrs. Ida Morrison; Lived Here 91 Yrs.
Death came Sunday noon to one of the oldest people in Grundy county. She was Mrs. Ida Morrison, who died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Reynolds, in Grundy Center. She resided in Grundy county continually for 91 years. She came to the county the year following the close of the Civil War. There are few, if any, who have resided in Grundy county continually for so many years.
She was born in Mt. Carroll, Ill., March 21, 1860, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Shimer. When she was about six years of age, she came with her parents to Grundy county, where she had since resided continuously.
On March 10, 1880, she was married to John W. Morrison. To them were born five children. Preceding Mrs. Morrison in death were her husband; her two eldest daughters at the ages of three and four of diphtheria; and her two sons, Herbert Grant Morrison and Walter C. Morrison. She is survived by her daughter, Clara Alice Reynolds, six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clara Brown of Antigo, Wis.
Grandma Morrison had been confined to her room for five uncomplaining years, and then bedfast for two and one-half years more, previous to her death at the age of 97 years and 7 months.
She had been a member of the Methodist Church all her life. Loving and unselfish care by her family yielded to the Master's call--but her gentle, patient disposition will ever remain an inspiration and a blessing to all who knew her.
Services for Mrs. Morrison were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. E. E. Basye, at the Ferree Chapel at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 22. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
