Mrs. Emery Davis Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Emery Davis died very suddenly at her home in Grundy Center about 10:30 Thursday morning. The heart attack is believed to have come on very suddenly and she was seated on a chair by the telephone to call the doctor when she died. The doctor responded to the call at once but he was too late to reach her before death came.

Mrs. Davis was 77 years old on the 15th of November. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Suttman. Her maiden name was Rose Suttman. She resided in Grundy county all of her life. She attended Grundy Center high school and graduated from this school. For a number of years she taught in the rural schools of the county.

On March 25th, 1903, Rose Suttman and Emery Davis were married. They began housekeeping on the Davis farm in Lincoln township where they resided for 35 years. They moved to Grundy Center in 1939 and lived here continually. Mr. Davis died in 1954.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter. The sons are Edwin from Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lee from Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Paul from Grundy Center. The only daughter, Dorothy, now Mrs. Louis Reynolds, lives in Waterloo. There are eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The son from California was unable to get plane reservations to come to his mother's funeral. Edwin's health was not good enough to make the trip from New Mexico.

Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at the Engelkes Funeral home. The services were conducted by Rev. Mohr. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
