Services Friday For Mrs. Ruth Metzgar

Mrs. Ruth Metzgar passed away Wednesday morning at the Grundy Memorial hospital. Death came as a result of cancer. She would have been 75 on the 28th day of February.

Funeral services have been set tentatively for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Methodist Church in Grundy Center.

Mrs. Ruth Metzgar was born at Fayette, Iowa, February 28, 1882, the daughter of Abram L. Foote and Carrie Morrison Foote.

She received her education in the Public School at Fayette, Iowa a member of the 1900 class.

On December 7, 1904 she was united in marriage at Waterloo, Iowa, to Ralph E. Metzgar. To this union three children were born: Veda Veryl, Vera Peryl and Robert Ellis.

Mrs. Metzgar was a member of the Methodist church and served many years in Sunday school work starting with the cradle roll thru the primary department ending with 10 years in the home department.

At the time of her death she was the oldest member of the Woman's Relief Corps in length of membership having joined in February 1907 and served the corps as an officer for many years.

Also she was a member of the King's Daughters and has served as the Recorder of the Royal Neighbors since June 1929.

Her one hobby she liked was traveling and the two trips she like most were to the Rocky Mountain area and a trip to Europe.

After retiring as cook for many years in restaurants and the hotel, she spent her time visiting her children, calling on old, sick and shut-in people.

Mrs. Metzgar is survived by her three children, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Surviving children are one son, Robert, and two daughters, Mrs. Peryl Gordon and Mrs. Veryl Doyle, all of Chicago.
