Edith Wilhelm Dies in Hospital

Mrs. Edith Wilhelm died last Sunday in the Grundy Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for several days. Her health had been declining gradually during the past ten years. Death followed a stroke while she was in the hospital. She was 84 years old. She was a resident of Grundy county continually for 83 years.

Mrs. Wilhelm's maiden name was Edith L. Desmarias. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Desmarias. The family came here from Pecatonica, Ill., when Mrs. Wilhelm was a year old. She grew up on a farm southwest of Grundy Center. She was born on April 30, 1872. On October 30th, 1895, she and Charles Wilhelm were married. The early part of their married life they resided on a Grundy county farm. About 40 years ago they built a house in Grundy Center, into which they moved when the house was completed. Her husband died in 1938. Following the death of her husband she and her sister Mary made their home together. Mary died about six weeks ago. Preceding her in death were her husband, her four brothers, Edmund, Alex, Charles and John, and her sister, Mary. Only surviving members of her family are two nieces, Dr. Varina Desmarias and Lillian Desmarias.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. E. E. Basye, pastor of the Methodist church, were held at the Ferree Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
