Ira B. Rouse Died At Hospital

Ira B. Rouse died at the Grundy Memorial Hospital at 6:30 Wednesday morning. Death came quite suddenly following a second heart attack. He suffered his first heart attack three weeks ago and was taken to the hospital at once. He appeared to be making a satisfactory recovery and the family expected him to be able to return to his home within a short time. News of his death was heard with deep regret by his many friends throughout the county.

Funeral services have been tentatively set for two o'clock Friday afternoon at the Baptist church in Grundy Center. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Resided in County 56 Years
Ira Rouse resided in Grundy county 56 years. He was born in Sullivan county, Missouri, December 28, 1874, and he would have been 78 on his next birthday. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rouse. He remained in the county of his birth until 1896 when he came to Grundy county, where he was employed as a farm hand for a number of years. In 1907 Ira Rouse and Ethel Bloxham were married. Following his marriage he assisted in the management of the Bloxham farm until 1930 when he was appointed deputy sheriff of Grundy county and he and his family moved to Grundy Center. He served as former sheriff M. G. Mamminga's deputy for ten years. After retiring from the sheriff's office he accepted employment as doorkeeper for the Viking Pump company at Cedar Falls, until he reached the retirement age three years ago, when he returned to the home of his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Schaa, in Grundy Center. He made his home with them 17 years. His wife died in 1914.

Was Doorkeeper For Iowa Senate Two Sessions
He served as doorkeeper in the Iowa senate for two sessions and expected to be re-appointed to this post when the next legislature meets in January.

Mr. Rouse was a member of the Baptist church in Grundy Center and a longtime and active member in the I.O.O.F. and Masonic lodges in Grundy Center.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters. The sons are Elden, Cristobal, Canal Zone; Floyd, Grundy Center; and Russell, Columbia, Mo. The daughters are Mrs. H. B. Schaa and Mrs. Raymond Lynn, Grundy Center. There are eight grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are four brothers, Albert, Eugene, Clarence and Lem, from Greene, Mo. The one sister, Mrs. Gifford, also resides at Greene, Mo.
