Former Grundy Woman Died At Mechanicsville Thursday

Mrs. William J. Lyon died Apr. 22, 1937, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Archibald Butler, in Mechanicsville, Iowa.

Nellie Graves Lyon was born Jan. 19, 1866, in Carroll county, Ill. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George G. Graves. She spent her girlhood days on a farm in Clay township. Her parents are buried at the Alice cemetery.

After graduating from the high school at Wyoming, Iowa, she taught school at Madison Center, Jones county. She was married to William J. Lyon, December, 1885, at Grundy Center. Mr. and Mrs. Lyon lived in Grundy county until about 35 years ago, when they moved to Wyoming, Ia., where they had continued to make their home up to the time of Mrs. Lyon's death.

Left to mourn her loss are the husband, William J. Lyon, a son Leon, at home; and a daughter, Mrs. Archibald Butler, two grandchildren, Eva Maxine and Glen Butler; four sisters, Mrs. George Morrison, Grundy Center, Mrs. Harve Miner of Estherville, Mrs. Pearl Derryberry, Jackson, Tenn., Mrs. Aliph Sperry, also of Jackson, Tenn.; one brother, William Graves, Winnebago, Neb., a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. One daughter, Eva Pearle, died at the age of ten years.

Funeral services were held in Mechanicsville Saturday morning, April 24, Rev. Northdurft conducting the services. The body was brought to Grundy Center where burial services were held Saturday afternoon. Rev. J. B. Bird officiating. A vocal number was rendered by Mrs. N. W. Reynolds. Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery, Grundy Center.

Out of town relatives present at the burial service were Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Butler and son Glen, Mechanicsville; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clapp, Cedar Rapids; Glen Morrison, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Harve Miner, Estherville.
