Sidney F. Price Grundy Hotel Man Pneumonia Victim
End Comes Suddenly Wednesday Night; Was Station Agent And Mayor At Conrad Several Years
Sidney F. Price, who during the past eight years was owner and manager of the Columbia hotel in Grundy Center, died at his home about 11:30 last Wednesday night, following an illness of about ten days with pneumonia. Mr. Price's condition which seemed to be improving took a turn for the worse Wednesday afternoon and he went into a gradual decline.
The news of Mr. Price's death was received with deep regret over the county where he spent nearly his entire life and where he was so well known.
Before coming to Grundy Center, Mr. Price had served several years as Northwestern station agent at Conrad. While he resided at Conrad he served as a member of the school board, as a member of the town council and also as mayor of Conrad.
Mr. Price was 65 years old. He was born in Grundy county and all but eight years of his life was spent here.
Funeral Services Sunday
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Grundy Center Sunday afternoon. They were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. J. B. Bird. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Grundy Center cemetery. The wife died a year ago last March.Relatives residing outside of the county who were present at the funeral were Mrs. Paul L. Clugston, New York City; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fultz and daughter from Osage, Ia.; Chrystal and Audrea Price, Des Moines; Lucille Price, Marshalltown; T. Garden from Osage. One son, Fred, who resides in Florida, left for Grundy Center as soon as he was advised of his father's death. He was unable to reach here in time for the funeral because of the delay in getting through the flood region.
Obituary
Sidney Fredrick Price, son of John Price and Catherine Delker, was born Mar. 4, 1872, in Grundy county, Ia., and passed away Jan. 27, 1937, at Grundy Center, Iowa.He spent his entire life in Grundy county with the exception of 8 years in Nebraska. He attended Finley College at Findley, Ohio.
On Mar. 4, 1897, he was united in marriage to Laura Mae Hundley at Grundy Center. To this union were born three children: Vola Kathryn Clugston of New York City, William Hundley of Grundy Center, and Sidney Fredrick Jr. of Miami, Florida.
For a number of years he was station agent at Conrad, Iowa, and the lumber, grain and coal business in the firm of Randall & Price. While there he took a deep interest in the community welfare, serving as mayor, on the town council and a member of the school board. He always had an active part in anything that pertained to the uplifting of his townsmen. The last 14 years of his life were spent in Grundy Center. During this time he was manager of the Fullerton Lumber Co. and the Farmers Elevator and the past eight years he managed the Columbia Hotel in Grundy Center.
Surviving him are his three children, two grandchildren, Billy and Nancy Price; two brothers, John of Grundy Center and Clinton B. of Englewood, Colorado; one sister, Mrs. Celia Fultz of Osage, Iowa; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ella Bogart of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Delia Atkinson of Washington.
