Mrs. Ed. Slifer Died Sunday

Mrs. Edwin M. Slifer died at her home in Grundy Center at 10:15 Sunday night. She had been in failing health the past few months. Ten days ago she suffered a stroke. She recovered partly from the stroke, but on Saturday her condition became worse and it continued that course until the end came. She was 70 years old last May.

Funeral services will be at the Engelkes funeral home at 1:30 Thursday afternoon and at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church with Rev. Alexander in charge. Burial will be by the side of the husband in the Grundy Center cemetery. Her husband died a year ago last July.

Was Native of Germany
Mrs. Slifer was born in Eastfriesland, Germany. Her maiden name was Kate Johnson. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Johnson. She came to America with her parents when she was 10 years old. The family located in Parkersburg and Kate Johnson grew to womanhood there. She worked in homes in Grundy Center a number of years. She was married to Edwin Slifer in Grundy Center, Jan. 18, 1899. The couple lived in the same house in Grundy Center during all of their married life.

Raised a Large Family
Mr. and Mrs. Slifer had eight children who are living. They are: Bliss, Grundy Center; Asa, Colfax township; Ray Slifer and Mrs. Evert Thoren, Grundy Center; Mrs. George Peters, Reinbeck; Mrs. Carl Ruppelt, Melvin, Ky., Arthur, Grundy Center. There are nine grandchildren.
