F. U. Callaway Dies From Stroke

Frank U. Callaway, who had resided in Grundy county all of his life, died at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown Monday night. He was 78 years old.

Eight days before his death he became ill with a light lung congestion. He seemed to be recovering from this trouble when he suffered a stroke at his home Saturday evening. He was taken to the hospital during the night, but was unable to recover from the fatal stroke.

Frank Callaway was born on a Melrose township farm Feb. 6th, 1868. He was a son of Jonathan and Amelia Callaway. While living on the farm he became a member of the Felix Center Methodist church.

On June 27, 1900, he and Agnes Dalgliesh were married in Grundy Center. They began housekeeping here and both lived in the same house during all of their lives following their marriage.

Mr. Callaway operated a meat market in Grundy Center several years. Later he became a salesman for the Sherman Nursery Company of Charles City. His hobby was growing flowers.

Surviving are two sons, Wilbur of Grundy Center and Vincent of Great Falls, Montana. There are three grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are two brothers, John of Whitten, Bert of Gifford. One sister, Mrs. Emma Wilkins, lives at Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be at the Engelkes Funeral Home at two o'clock Friday afternoon. The services will be conducted by Rev. Virgil Smith, pastor of First Presbyterian church. Burial will be by the side of the wife in the Grundy Center cemetery.
