End Comes Quickly For Jake Essig

Jacob H. Essig died quite suddenly at the home of Mrs. Geo. Bienfang in Grundy Center at about six o'clock Friday evening. He had spent most of the afternoon visiting with old friends up and down the street during the afternoon. He came home about 4 o'clock and said he wasn't feeling well and went to his room. A heart ailment with which he had been afflicted for some time developed very quickly and he died within a few hours. He would have been 86 years old had he lived until October.

Funeral services were held at the Coffman funeral home Monday afternoon. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Grundy Center cemetery. Rev. David Alexander, pastor of the Baptist church, conducted the services.

Came to Grundy Center 60 Years Ago
Jacob H. Essig was born Oct. 24, 1858, in the province of Ontario, Canada. He was the son of Gottlieb and Margaret Essig. He came to the United States and Grundy county about 60 years ago, where he made his home continuously in Grundy Center until the time of his death Friday, August 11, at the age of 85 years and 10 months.

He was married to Eliza Denio on November 19, 1885, who preceded him in death February 19, 1938. He leaves to mourn his death, one son Thearl of Sioux City and one sister, Mrs. Katherine Snovel of Eldora and three grandchildren.

Was Carpenter and Tinner
Mr. Essig was a carpenter and tinner. For many years he conducted a repair shop in Grundy Center. During most of his active lifetime he was a very handy man about town to give his assistance in odd repair jobs and he was an honest and capable workman.
