William J. Nakken Buried At Whitten

Funeral services were held at Whitten at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Christian church for William John Nakken, 68, who died last Friday in Independence. Burial was in the Whitten cemetery.

William John Nakken, son of John and Gertie Nakken, was born July 22nd, 1878, in the Netherlands and passed away Friday morning, May 9, in Independence. Mr. Nakken came to America when a small child and spent the rest of his life in Iowa. He retired from the farm 28 years ago.

He was married to Mary Sophia Wilke on April 4th, 1900, near Marshalltown, and to this union were born three daughters and two sons, all of whom survive: Mrs. Gertrude Elder of Conrad, Mrs. Jessie Switzer of Wilder, Idaho, Mrs. Elsie Jenkins of Riverside, California, Ray Nakken of Rockton, Ill., and Walter Nakken of Pasadena, Calif.

In 1919 Mr. Nakken was married to Effie Landis, who survives. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Tillie Miller of Enid, Okla., Mrs. Dena Bates of Gilman and Herman Nakken of Blackville, Mont.
