Mrs. E. Kitzman Dies Following Heart Attack
She Had Lived On The Same Farm In Grundy County 40 Years; Married 61 Yrs.
Mrs. E. H. Kitzman, who had lived on a farm four miles north of Beaman forty years, died early Saturday morning in a Marshalltown hospital. She suffered a heart attack at her home Friday night and shortly thereafter was taken to the hospital. Prior to the time she was stricken she had been in good health. She was 81 years old.
A short funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Johnston Funeral home in Conrad and later at the Methodist church at Beaman. Rev. Sunderlin, Beaman pastor, officiated at the service. Burial was in the Beaman cemetery.
Native of Poweshiek County
Mrs. Kitzman was born in Poweshiek county, Iowa. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Schafer.On March 1st, 1887, Elizabeth Schafer and E. H. Kitzman were married at Malcom, Iowa. The first three years of their married life they resided on the farm of the bride's parents in Poweshiek county. After that they purchased a farm in the same neighborhood on which they lived 18 years.
Come to Grundy County In 1908
In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Kitzman bought a farm north of Beaman which has been their home ever since. It is a fine farm with all modern improvements.Married Over 61 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Kitzman enjoyed more than 61 years of married life together. Their 60th wedding anniversary was formally observed at their home on the first of March of last year.Mr. and Mrs. Kitzman were the parents of five children. They are Henry, who resides on the home farm, Albert of Palermo township, Julia who is at home, Charles resides on a portion of the home farm, and Mrs. Arnett Middleton of Palermo township. There are 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
