Harm C. Abels Dies Suddenly
Harm C. Abels died very suddenly at his home in Holland about 8:15 Friday morning. Corn was being shelled at his place. He had been shoveling corn but a short time when he complained about a distress in his chest. He went into the kitchen of his home to get a drink of water and told his wife she had better call the doctor. It was while she was putting through the call that her husband collapsed on the floor and died almost instantly. He would have been 49 years old had he lived until the 29th of next month.
Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock Monday afternoon and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church. Rev. George Swalve officiated at the service. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. There was a very large attendance at the funeral service.
Born On Farm in Palermo Township
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Abels. He was born on a farm in the northwest part of Palermo township, Grundy county, and he grew up there. On March 12th, 1924, Harm Abels and Hazel Heronimus were married. The first five years of their married life was on a farm in Butler county. After that they returned to a farm in Colfax township. For ten years Mr. Abels was the custodian of the Colfax church and cemetery. In 1945 he bought an acreage in the town of Holland and he and his family moved there.Surviving are the wife, one son Irwin, Wellsburg, one daughter Mrs. Wesley Freed, Grundy Center and a daughter Margie who is at home. Other surviving relatives are three brothers: John and Henry, Holland, and Conrad of Grundy Center. There are four sisters: Mrs. Reka Franken, Holland; Margaret Abels, Grundy Center; and Esther and Bernice Abels, Sibley.
