John DeBoer Dies From Heart Attack

John DeBoer, who had spent the greater part of his life in Grundy county, died Sunday evening following a heart attack. He was stricken Sunday evening while he and his wife were visiting at the Robert Hillygus home in Marshall county. Death came at seven o'clock, two hours after he was stricken. He would have been 58 years old had he lived until next October. He was feeling well and happy on Sunday. While he had a number of heart disturbances at different times in late years, he did not regard them as serious.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes Funeral Home at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon and later at the Baptist church in Grundy Center. Rev. J. L. Pace officiated at the service. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Mr. DeBoer was a son of Jacob and Dora DeBoer. When he was three years old he moved with his parents to Lyon county where they made their home on a farm near George and where he grew up. About 40 years ago he returned to Grundy county and worked on farms. On September 17, 1913, he and Helen Bonk were married at the Lincoln Center church. After leaving the farm Mr. DeBoer became a salesman for farm merchandise. At the time of his death he was employed as salesman by a Minnesota firm. His work kept him on the road most of the time.

Surviving are the wife, one son, Joe, Minneapolis, and three daughters. The daughters are Mrs. Hazel Dodd, Mrs. Leona Booher, both of Grundy Center, and Mrs. Thelma Davis, Dysart. There are 7 grandchildren. Mr. DeBoer's aged father from George, Iowa, is still living and also two brothers and three sisters.
