Matches Blamed For Fatal Fire In Riceville

Riceville--"Children playing with matches" was the verdict of State Fire Marshal Charles Leber of Charles City in the death of a two-year-old Mason City boy who perished here in a car fire Friday.

Leber made the ruling after an investigation that included a thorough search of the burned ruins of the car in which John Riser died.

The boy had been left in the car with his brother, Jeff, 4, while his father, Thomas Riser of Mason City, visited a doctor. Jeff was outside the car at the time of the fire.
