Obituary of Isaac Hasbrouck

The death of Isaac H. Hasbrouck which occurred June 20, 1901, removed from life one of Grundy Center's oldest and most respected citizens. For several months past the old gentleman had been failing in health and that his time to go had come none of his family doubted. With decrepit step and feeble voice he has been spared the blessings of life beyond the three score years and ten and for some time had expressed his desire to depart and be with the companion of his life who preceded him to the better world some five years ago. Deceased was born in Ulster county, N.Y., 1818, and was married in 1839 to Miss Alma Caroline Bonesteel of the same county. From New York the family moved to Michigan and thence to Iowa where they settled at Cedar Falls and later came to Grundy Center in the early seventies where they remained. Deceased united with the Baptist church in early manhood but after coming here took membership with the German Baptists where he lived a consistent and Christian life. Two of his children, Dan and Freeman, have passed from life since their removal to this place and those left to mourn the aged father's death are Leander, Howard, Edward and George, besides a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss the cheerful voice and pleasant companionship of the aged grandfather who has long been their companion and counselor. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Garner and the remains were laid to rest in the Clark cemetery followed by a large number of sympathizing friends.
