Lifetime Resident "Miss Jo" Thielen Dies December 30

Josephine Thielen of Grundy Center, passed away on Friday, December 30, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck of natural causes, having attained the age of 94 years, 4 months and 5 days.

Her body was donated to science. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Fund.

Josephine Thielen was born on August 25, 1900, in Grundy Center the daughter of Dr. Michel Thielen and Anna Hansen. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1922 with a Bachelors Degree in English. From 1922 until 1972, she taught English and Latin in the Grundy Center School system. She also served as Librarian and girls basketball coach.

She was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Iowa State Education Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Dr. Edward and Dr. John; and 1 sister, Katherine.

She is survived by 11 nieces and nephews and many friends.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in charge of the arrangements.
