Oldest Grundy Woman And Son Die Same Night

Mrs. Patrick Mitchell And Son William Both Died Early Monday Morning; Mother Was 95

Mrs. Patrick Mitchell and her son William of Grundy Center both died within a few hours of each other early Monday morning. The mother was 95 and the oldest woman in Grundy Center. The son was 61.

Son a Cancer Victim
William Mitchell had been suffering the past year from a cancer of the chest and the spine. The end had been expected for several weeks. His wife died quite suddenly following a stroke five months ago. Since that time Mr. Mitchell's three brothers looked after him. He died about two hours after his mother had passed away.

Funeral Services Wednesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Mitchell and her son were held at the Catholic church in Grundy Center Wednesday morning. The services were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. Father Forster. Burial was in the Grundy cemetery. The mother was buried by the side of her husband and the son by the side of his wife in another lot.

William Mitchell Born in Waterloo
William Mitchell was born in Waterloo. He came to Grundy Center with his parents when he was eight years old and attended school here. He became a carpenter and followed that trade during his active lifetime. He was married thirty years ago and he and his wife made their home in Grundy Center continually. They had no children. Aside from his sister and brothers he is survived by his stepson, James Mitchell from Chicago.

Relatives from a distance who were here at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. James Mitchell, Chicago; John Mitchell, Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Clark and Mr. and Mrs. Will Hughes, Britt, Iowa; Mrs. Tom Mitchell, Traer.
