Lorene Marie Connell, 91, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Grundy Center and Gladbrook, died August 2, 2007, at the Dream Catcher Assisted Living Home in Scottsdale, Ariz. Graveside service was held August 11 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Lorene was born the daughter of Peter Jacob and Meta (Marten) Johannsen on December 17, 1915. She received her education and graduated from the Gladbrook High School. Lorene Marie Johnannsen was united in marriage with Raymond Martin Connell on July 21, 1938. They made their home on the family farm near Conrad. In 1951 they moved to Grundy Center until 1961, they moved to Hampton, for a few years before they moved to Gladbrook in 1964. In the late 70s they retired and returned to Grundy Center. In 2001 she moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. to a private home that offered assisted living.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson; her parents; one brother, Lyle Johnannsen; and one sister, Marjorie Oaks.

Lorene is survived by two sons, Gary (Sue) Connell and Daryl (Michele) Connell; two daughters, Mary Jo Arney and Rita Jo Geery (Joseph); five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Allen (Pauline) Johannsen.
