Rites Held For Sylvia Catherwood

Sylvia Catherwood, 89, of Grundy Center, passed away on Thursday, April 9, at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Grundy Center. Father Douglas Loecke officiated.

Pallbearers were Dean Beenken, Rick Catherwood, Donald Catherwood, DuWayne Catherwood, Larry Catherwood and Tracy Catherwood.

A memorial fund has been established.

Sylvia was born on January 1, 1909, the daughter of John and Mary (Roline) Senenfelder in Popejoy. She grew up and attended school in Grundy Center. On June 8, 1927, she was united in marriage to Michael V. Catherwood at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. To this union was born nine children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; children, infant son, Michael, Evelyn, Robert, Gerald, Lawrence and Geraldine; her parents; brothers, John, Bob, Jim and Chuck Senenfelder; and sisters, Goldie Erickson, Lucille Soma, Ethel Lunn and Luella Krietlow.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Beenken and husband Robert of Lincoln; son, Donald Catherwood and wife Kathy of Union; 1 sister, Dorothy Bell of Dows; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
