Services Held For Michael Catherwood

Michael LaVerne Catherwood of Grundy Center passed away at 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on Saturday, December 19, at 10 a.m. Rev. Edgar C. Kolfenbach of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center, officiated.

The casket bearers were Robert Fetters, Wendell Kriegl, Gary Lepley, Elmer Boelman, Herman Beenken and Dick Youker.

The committal services were held immediately following the funeral service. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mr. Catherwood was born on December 3, 1929, at Morrison, the son of Michael Vincent and Sylvia Senenfelder Catherwood. He attained the age of 58 years and 13 days.

He grew up in Morrison and in the Spring of 1940, his family moved and made their home in Grundy Center. He was a professional semi-truck driver, driving coast to coast for most of his life. Most of his life he made his home with his mother in Grundy Center.

He was baptized in the Sacred Heart Church in Grundy Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by one son, James Michael Catherwood of Fort Dodge; one stepson, Robert Fetters of Eldora; two grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Sylvia Catherwood of Grundy Center; three brothers, Robert of Quasqueton, Lawrence of Whitten and Donald of Union; and one sister, Dorothy Beenken of Lincoln.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
