Arthur Broderick Dies in Hospital

Arthur J. Broderick died early Monday morning at Veterans Hospital, Des Moines, where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was afflicted with cancer, and his health failed gradually during the past year. He was 69 years old last October.

Arthur Broderick was born October 16, 1890, at Rockwell, Iowa. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Broderick. He came to Grundy Center with his parents at the age of 6, and resided here continually ever since. He attended school in Grundy Center and was graduated from our high school. He took up the work of a painter after he completed school. He served 17 months in the First World War and some of this service was overseas.

On May 24, 1919, Arthur Broderick and Grace Carroll from Omaha were married at Webster City. They began life together in Grundy Center.

Was in Employ of State 17 Years
Arthur Broderick served as a state inspector of weights and measures under the State Department of Agriculture for 17 years. He retired from that position three years ago due to his health.

Surviving are the wife, two sons and one daughter. The sons are Carroll from Omaha and Byron from New York City. The daughter Jean resides in Washington. She was unable to come to her father's funeral because she is ill with flu. The two sons are here. There are five grandchildren. Other surviving members of the family are two brothers, Paul from Allison and Bill from Los Angeles. There is one surviving sister, Mrs. W. T. O'Connor, Cedar Falls.

Mr. Broderick was a charter member of the American Legion Post in Grundy Center.

The body has been at the Ferree Funeral Home. There was a rosary service at the funeral home at 7:30 Wednesday evening. Final rites will be in the Catholic church in Grundy Center at 9:30 on Thursday. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery. Services will be conducted by Father Peter Bodensteinder.
