Services Held Saturday For Elmer Beach

Elmer G. Beach of Grundy Center passed away at 11:34 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 7, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center. Rev. John Hargrafen officiated. Organist was Mrs. William Fisher.

Casket bearers were James Lynch, George Lang, William Fisher, Paul Buck, Dean Eslinger and William Halbach.

Serving as ushers were Don Coleman and Wallace Norman. Mrs. Wallace Norman was in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mr. Beach was born on July 21, 1907, at Goldfield, the son of Walter and Laura Jesse Fields Beach. He grew up at Goldfield, and attended school there. As a young man, he went to Topeka, KS and worked for the railroad.

On October 29, 1948, at Oelwein, he was united in marriage to Elaine Cannon. After their marriage he worked as a meat manager of a retail store. In 1951, they moved and made their home in Grundy Center and was manager of the Grundy Food Market's meat department until 1955. They then lived in Waterloo, Parkersburg, and Ogden until coming back to Grundy Center in 1960. He worked for Cech's Grocery until 1962, when he had to retire due to his health.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Grundy Center and the Holy Name Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Grundy Center; one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Sue Beach of Arlington, TX; and by two grandchildren, Shannon and Jamie Beach.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
