Timothy Willard Nielsen, 62, of Dike, died at home Sunday, Nov. 7, of natural causes.

He was born July 8, 1948, son of Russell and Rosemary Charvat Nielsen. On Oct. 28, 1967, he married Margaret Ericksen at the home of her parents.

Mr. Nielsen attended school in Dike and graduated in 1970 from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, with a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry with a teaching emphasis. He was a farmer and an educator. He was employed with Pine Lake Corn Processing and worked at the ethanol plant, retiring in July 2010. He was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, and he also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Tim was an accomplished artist in many mediums. He had a passion for teaching the Bible. Entertaining his grandchildren at what he affectionately called "Cousin Camp" was a highlight of Tim's life. Surrounded by family, Tim traveled out of our sight on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, while a patient with Cedar Valley Hospice and went to walk with God.

Survived by: his wife; four sons, Christopher (Michelle), Samuel and Barnabas, all of Dike, and Andrew (Amanda) of Lakewood, Wash.; two daughters, Megan (Matthew) Roelfs of Ackley and Mollie (Russell) Graves of Dike; 20 grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Diane) of Bettendorf; and a sister, Patricia (John) Schuler of Janesville, Wis.

Preceded in death by: his parents; and an infant son, Adam Joseph.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Waterloo, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Military honors will be provided by Iowa Army National Guard. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo.
