Marvin G. Moats, 73, of Conrad, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

Interment was at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 30, at the Conrad Cemetery. A Celebration of Life followed at 10:30 a.m. at the Ivester Church of the Brethren. A memorial fund has been established in honor of Marvin.

The Johnston Funeral Home of Conrad was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Glen Moats, was born February 19,
1938, the son of Edgar and Marie (Smith) Moats.
He lived in the Ivester Community many years and attended the Ivester Church of the Brethren where he was baptized. He attended rural Grundy and Hardin county schools, graduating from Grundy Center High School in 1956. On June 18, 1965, Marvin was united in marriage to Joyce Beeghly at the United Methodist Church in Conrad. Marvin and Joyce began their home in Grundy Center moving to the family farm in 1978, and most recently, Conrad. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1962 through 1966.

Marvin owned and operated Marv’s Body Shop in Grundy Center from 1969 through 1974. He farmed until 1992 before owning and operating Marv’s Tire and Alignment in Conrad until his retirement in 2000. Marv enjoyed fishing, making fishing gear, working on cars, and loved spending time with his family.

Marvin will be missed by his wife of 46 years, Joyce, of Conrad; his children: Blaine (Robyn) Moats, of Grundy Center; and Susan (Mark) Haren, of Parkersburg; four grandchildren: Bryce Moats; and Sidney, Trevor and Jack Haren, his sister, Marlene (Lyle) Neher, of Grundy Center; his brothers: Dean Moats of Knoxville; and Vernon Moats of Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
