An Old Melrose Settler Dies

Daniel Starr Passes Away at Marshalltown Soldier Home

Daniel Starr, formerly an old settler in Melrose township, passed away Sunday at Marshalltown in the Old Soldier's home where he had been since June 1, 1916. His death was due to uremic poisoning. Mr. Starr was a resident of Melrose township a number of years prior to retiring from the farm to Eldora and he is well remembered by many old settlers in that vicinity.

He was born in Madison, Wis., June 25, 1843, and enlisted in Company H, Third Wisconsin infantry, Jan. 29, 1865, at Monroe, Wis. Mr. Starr was discharged July 15, 1865, at Louisville, Ky. Ten children survive Mr. Starr, who was a widower. The children are Charles, of Cedar Rapids; Logan and Herbert of Eldora; Edwin of Lake Park; Solomon of Couer d'Alene, Idaho; Thurman of Boulder, Colo.; Mrs. Bertha Fuller of Owasa; Mrs. Ed. Hoover of Willmar, Minn.; Mrs. J. W. Littlebridge, of Oakes, N.D.; and Mrs. M. F. Wilson of Washburn, N.D. The body was taken this morning to Eldora, where burial will take place.
