Mrs. Mabel Long, 87, passed away at the Grundy County Memorial hospital in Grundy Center Tuesday evening, September 12, at 11 o'clock. She had been taken to the hospital earlier that day from the Storey Custodial Home, where she had resided the past year.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the First Methodist church with Rev. Harold Sparks officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mabel Long was born September 3, 1880, in Grundy Center to Mr. and Mrs. Ovando A. Newton. She was married to Ross Long at Whitten December 10, 1902. They moved to Grundy Center shortly after their marriage.

Mrs. Long was a faithful member of the WSCS of the Methodist church, Woman's Relief Corps, Garden Club and King's Daughters as long as her health permitted.

The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Lillian) Laufer and Mrs. Fred (Beulah) Lage of Gladbrook; two sons, Charles of Ames and Kenneth, of Van Nuys, Calif.; two brothers, Harry and Sam Newton, Grundy Center; one sister, Mrs. William Mutch, Grundy Center; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sons, Lloyd, Russell and Milo.
