Joshua L. Omvig, 22, of Grundy Center died December 22 from self inflicted wounds. Funeral services were December 27 at the American Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established.

Joshua was born November 18, 1983, the son of Randall L. and Ellen G. (Kitch) Omvig. He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 2002. He was a member of the United States Army Reserve 339th MP Company based in Davenport. He recently returned from an 11 months tour of duty in Iraq and was presently employed at 03 Direct Security in Des Moines. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Grundy Center, the Grundy Center Volunteer Fire Department and Police Reserves.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Rachel L. Omvig of Grundy Center; a brother, Jacob (Olivia) Omvig of Laurel, MD; paternal grandmother, Nancy Omvig of Eagle Grove, and step-paternal grandfather, John Kramer of Eagle Grove.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William (Jimmie Lou) Kitch; and paternal grandfather, Julian Omvig.
