Wahneta Bentley, 81, of Grundy Center, died July 1 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Funeral services were July 5 at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name at the Grundy Center United Methodist Church and the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Wahneta was born February 14, 1923, the daughter of Harvey and Elva (Wood) Meyers in Grundy County. She attended rural school in Palermo Township and then graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1940. Wahneta worked in the telephone office at the switchboard for several years. Wahneta was united in marriage to Keith Bentley on June 18, 1947, in the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. Wahneta worked in the Grundy County Auditor's and Treasurer's Offices for several years. Wahneta enjoyed her family and friends, bowling and keeping scrapbooks. She was a member of the Grundy Center United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and city and national bowling associations.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith in 1997; her parents; a brother, Paul in 1985; and a sister, Varina in 1984.

Wahneta is survived by her daughter, Nancy and her husband Jim Strother of Des Moines; two grandchildren; three sisters, Joyce and her husband Paul Miller of Sioux City, Dorothy and her husband Delbert Finke of Coralville and Jan and her husband Glen VanFossen of Mequon, WI; a sister-in-law, Ann Meyers of Grundy Center; and two brothers-in-law, Loren and his wife Velma Bently of Riverside, CA and Leland Bentley of Grundy Center.
