Donald L. "Pete" Petersen, 82, of Reinbeck, died June 10 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. Funeral services were June 14 at the First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck. Burial was in the Reinbeck Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Action Post #242, Reinbeck. Memorial contributions in his memory may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa, 1003 Gilbert Street, Charles city, IA 50616.

Born on March 29, 1922, Donald "Pete" Petersen was the son of Jens and Minnie (Christiansen) Petersen. He grew up in the area of his birth and received his education in Morrison. He was inducted into the United States Army during WWII and served our country in the D-Day Invasion and Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart before being honorably discharged. On June 22, 1946, he was united in marriage to Annabell Mennenga. Pete worked at the Rath Packing Company and later as a mechanic at the Chevrolet dealership in Reinbeck. More recently, Pete was employed as a custodian for the Reinbeck Public Schools for 26 years before retiring in 1976.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his brother; three sisters; and a daughter-in-law.

Survivors include his son; a granddaughter; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a nephew; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; and nephews.
