Russell R. Witt, 83, of Reinbeck, died April 29 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. A Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on May 3 at the Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Reinbeck. Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Action Post #242, Reinbeck.

Russell Roy Witt was born the son of Albert and Irene (Plett) Witt on July 28, 1920. He grew up in the Reinbeck area and graduated from the Reinbeck High School with the Class of 1938. In 1940, he moved to California to work in the Douglas Aircraft Company. In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served our country in World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1945 after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. On April 10, 1948, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Fischels. They farmed until retiring in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters; one son; a brother; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
