Francis E. Winslow, 90, of Friendship Village, Waterloo, formerly of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, April 13, of natural causes at Friendship Village in Waterloo. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 16, at United Methodist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Lee Webb officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center or to Friendship Village Health Center in Waterloo.

Francis was born August 29, 1913 at home on the farm in rural Grundy County near Beaman, the son of Clyde A. and Ada B. (Whorrall) Winslow. He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1930. That same year, at the age of sixteen, his father died and Francis took on the responsibility of managing and operating the 240-acre family farm in rural Grundy County. On May 29, 1936, Francis was united in marriage to Dorothy E. Miller at her parent's home in Grundy Center.

Francis was very active in all aspects of agriculture. He was past president of the Grundy County Fair board, an Iowa Master Farmer, an Iowa Distinguished Dairyman, and an Iowa Master Pork Producer. He was also active with the Grundy County Farm Bureau and the ISU Extension Service. In 1967, they sold their purebred Holstein dairy heard and Francis then sold Pioneer Seed Corn for many years. In 1980, they retired from active farming. He had also been a member of the Grundy County Rotary Club. Francis was a seventy-nine year active member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy E. Winslow of Friendship Village, Waterloo, two daughters, Francene Gruenhaupt and her husband Lee of Iowa City; Carolyn Miller of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Diane Hedlund and her husband Dr. Shawn Hedlund of Iowa city, Darin Gruenhaupt and his wife Jenny of Thornton, CO; Mark Gruenhaupt and his wife Kelly of Overland Park, KS, Major Joel Miller and his wife Judi of Katy, TX; Megan Bahls and her husband Ken of Mason City, David Miller of Centerville; Kirsten Fleck and her husband Chris of Omaha, NE, Aaron Miller of Marion, 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Crouse of Conrad; one sister-in-law, Celestine Persinger of Grundy Center; one brother-in-law John Miller and his wife Mildred of West Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred Winslow and Reba Hartz; two infant sisters, Hazel and Velma Winslow; one son-in-law, Loren Miller; and one great-granddaughter, Patricia.
