Bert M. Riebkes Victim Of Heart Attack Friday

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, April 21, 1975 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church for Bert M. Riebkes, Wellsburg. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Elmer Ruter and Mrs. Robert Valentine sang two duet numbers accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Neil Okones, Sr. and Mrs. Peter Nederhoff. Pallbearers were Roger Gelder, Leland Gelder, Harold Duhn, Alan Duhn, Max VanPelt, and Dennis Brewer. Interment was made in Westfriesland Presbyterian Church cemetery near Ackley. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bert M. Riebkes was taken from this life very suddenly, Friday afternoon, April 18, 1975, while driving his car north of Wellsburg. His death was attributed to an apparent heart attack. He reached the age of 73 years, 3 months and 29 days.

He was born on a farm in German township, northwest of Wellsburg on December 19, 1901, the son of Martin and Anna (Kannegieter) Riebkes. He attended the rural school in the area. On November 26, 1924, he was united in marriage to Nancy Janssen at the home of her parents in Aplington, by Rev. Johnson. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm northwest of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with 4 daughters. In February of 1962 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

The couple were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on November 23, 1974, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church, with their family and friends.

Mr. Riebkes was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church being received in the church by transfer of membership on January 4, 1966, from the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 grandchild and 1 great-grandchild.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Nancy; 4 daughters, (Angeline) Mrs. Harry Duhn of Wellsburg; (Kathleen) Mrs. Leonard Gelder of Wellsburg; (Ruth) Mrs. Marvin Janssen of Wellsburg; (Judy) Mrs. Paul Launderville of Denison; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters; Louis Riebkes of Wellsburg; (Jennie) Mrs. Otto Winters of Ackley; Mrs. Ida Lindaman of Wellsburg; Henry Riebkes of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
