George Geersema Dies in Hospital

George Geersma, who for several years resided on a farm five miles west of Wellsburg close to the Grundy-Hardin county line, died in a hospital at Emmetsburg on the night of May 5th. He was seriously ill for about a week from a heart condition. He was 81 years old.

Funeral services were held in the Graettinger Methodist church Thursday. The body was brought to the cemetery adjoining the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church where graveside rites were conducted by Rev. C. F. Siemsen.

George Thomas Geersema was born Sept. 21, 1876. He was married in Hardin county where he lived for many years. He also lived in Sibley and owned a dray line there for a number of years. He came to the Graettinger community in 1945 and resided with his nephew, Thomas Luitjens, and family until the time of his death.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Etta DeVries of Dike and Mrs. Dena Harms of Wellsburg, three grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Marie Hyde of Pomona, Calif., Mrs. Hattie VanLangen of Aplington, and Mrs. Annie Oltmans of Allison.
