Mrs. Greenfield Dies Thursday At Age Of 92

Mrs. Martin Greenfield, one of Ackley's oldest residents, died Thursday, March 14, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Butterwick. She would have been 93 years old in May.

Mrs. Greenfield, whose maiden name was Stientje Kurzleben, was born in Freeport, Illinois, May 20, 1864. She was the daughter of Jacob and Ella Kurzlaben.

The family came to Grundy county when she was six years old. On April 15, 1879, she married Martin Greenfield and they lived in farms in the vicinity of Ackley until 1919, when they moved into Ackley. Mr. Greenfield died in 1942, and for the past 11 years Mrs. Greenfield has made her home with the Butterwicks.

She was the oldest member of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, to which she had belonged since 1880.

Mrs. Greenfield was the mother of 16 children, ten boys and six girls, of whom four girls and four boys are still living. The survivors are Mrs. George Lingham of Marshalltown, Mrs. John H. Sailer of Hampton, Mrs. R. C. Bullemer of Minneapolis, Minn., George and Daniel Greenfield of Ackley, Samuel Greenfield of Galesburg, Ill., Calvin Greenfield of Conrad, and Mrs. John Butterwick of Ackley; 35 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. C. F. Siemsen conducted the funeral services at the East Friesland Church Monday afternoon, following prayer service for the immediate family at the Butterwick home. Interment was in the East Friesland cemetery.
