Eibe Kannegieter

Eibertus Kannegieter, son of John and Mattie Ulferts Kanngieter was born in Oldersum, Germany on April 17, 1874. When 11 years old, he came to America with his parents. In this country they at first settled in the vicinity of Cleves, Iowa.

On February 11, 1896 he became united in marriage with Tobina Christina Ludemann. Together they lived on their farms in German Township, Grundy County, Iowa until in 1940 when they moved to Ackley, Iowa and made their home there.

Mr. Kannegieter joined the East Friesland Presbyterian Church in 1895, and remained a faithful member until the time of his departure from this life. He was very active in the work of the church. He served his church as Deacon for 8 years, Elder for 24 years and was a Sunday School teacher for 23 years.

His passing from this life into eternity occurred very suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday forenoon, February 26, 1957 at about 9:30 a.m. Apparently in good health, and while going about his daily tasks, a heart attack suddenly terminated his earthly existence. He attained the age of 82 years, 10 months and 9 days.

He is survived by his 3 daughters: Marie, Mrs. John Kuper of Ackley; Gesina, Mrs. Wm. Oelmann of Ackley; Esther, Mrs. Harm A. Kruse of Holland, 4 sons: Henry of Wellsburg; Matthew of Steamboat Rock; Harry of Ackley and Fred of Wellsburg, 20 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters, besides many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, who was called from his side in 1946; one daughter, Margaret, in 1934 and one son, John, in 1952, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 2, at 12:45 at the home and later at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, Ackley, Iowa. The Rev. C. F. Siemsen officiated. Interment was in the East Friesland cemetery.
