Mother of Rev. J. A. Ludemann Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Fred Ludemann of Ackley, mother of Rev. J. A. Ludemann, died suddenly at her home early Saturday morning. She had been in very good health until December 15 when she fell on the icy street while doing her Christmas shopping, and suffered a broken hip. She was taken to the Lutheran hospital at Hampton where she recuperated very satisfactorily and was brought back to her home in Ackley on January 8. She was gaining nicely until the evening of January 16th when her condition became suddenly serious and she passed away early in the morning of January 17.

Mrs. Ludemann was 73 years of age. She is survived by her son John, and 4 granddaughters. Her husband preceded her in death in 1945 and a son, George, in 1937.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the East Friesland Presbyterian church near Ackley where she had been a member for many years.

Mrs. Fred Ludeman Succumbs to Heart Attack Friday Night

Mrs. Fred Ludeman died at her home just before midnight Friday, January 16, following a heart attack suffered a few hours earlier. Mrs. Ludeman fell and broke her hip on December 22, and had returned home from the hospital in Hampton on January 8. She was apparently recovering nicely when the attack occurred.

Mrs. Ludeman, whose maiden name was Harmke Hendricks, was born January 7, 1881, near Steamboat Rock in Grundy county. She was married to Fred Ludeman March 20, 1901, and they farmed three miles east of Cleves until their retirement in 1939, when they moved to Ackley. Mr. Ludeman died October 15, 1945. A son, George, was killed in September 1937.

Surviving are one son, the Rev. John Ludeman of Cedar Falls, two sisters, Mrs. Alice Knock, Grundy Center, and Mrs. Sam Janssen, Hampton; two brothers, Samuel Hendricks, Hampton, and Andrew Hendricks, Cleves; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Tena Ludeman of Pella, widow of George Ludeman; four granddaughters, Ruth and Georgene Ludeman of Pella and Janie and Ann Ludeman of Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held at the home at 12:30 p.m. and from the Eastfriesland church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. C. F. Siemsen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
