Longtime Resident Of Austinville Passes Away Oct. 3

Abraham Roelse passed away in his sleep the morning of October 3, 1964 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington following illness of last January since which time he had been hospitalized and in nursing homes. He had reached the age of 88 years, seven months and four days.

Mr. Roelse was born February 29, 1876 in Holland, the fourth child of twelve, son of William Roelse and Jacomina Voogd Roelse. He came to America in 1905 and was married to Haukea Harken on February 20, 1913. Mrs. Roelse preceded him in death on January 19, 1959.

For 16 years, Mr. Roelse was engaged in farming and after retiring from farming lived in Austinville. In 1960 after recuperating from an illness he moved to the Presbyterian Home where he spent the recent years.

He was a member of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church which he joined in 1914 and served faithfully for many years as deacon from 1919-1933 and as elder from 1934 to 1946.

He leaves to mourn him two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Prayer service for the family was held at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 6 in the West Friesland Church basement, followed by services in the sanctuary, conducted by the Rev. Richard Miller. Interment was in the West Friesland Cemetery.
