Funeral Services for Mrs. Kate Groninga Held Wednesday
Mrs. George Groninga died at her home east of Ackley Saturday evening. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church, following prayer service at the home. The Rev. Norman Flink was the officiating pastor. Interment was in the Westfriesland Church cemetery.
Trientje (Kate) Groninga, daughter of Cornelius and Benedene Hayenga, was born March 23, 1880, near Wellsburg in Grundy County.
On March 25, 1904 she was married to George K. Groninga. For twenty years they lived on the farm in Butler county where their son Mervin now lives, then moved to the farm on Highway 20 thirty six years ago. Mr. Groninga passed away in 1953.
Mrs. Groninga had been a member of the Westfriesland Church since 1911.
Surviving her are two daughters, Myrtle (Mrs. Carter Zwyers) with whom she made her home; Josephine (Mrs. Alan Bishop) of Ventura, California; one son, Mervin of Ackley; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Reka (Mrs. Klaus Groninga) of Ackley and Dena Hayenga of Baldwin Park, California.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons and two daughters.
