Funeral Services To Be Held Friday For Mrs. Kate Brass

Mrs. Kate Brass died Tuesday at Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa Falls where she had been taken the week before. Mrs. Brass was found unconscious on the floor of her home by her grandson, Paul Brass and great-nephews, Daryl and Bryce Zacharias, on Tuesday morning, July 7, when they came to mow her lawn. She had apparently been out digging some potatoes and picking flowers earlier, as they were on the table beside her. She did not regain consciousness at the hospital.

Mrs. Brass, the daughter of Geuko and Tena Hartema, was born in East Friesland, Germany, March 4, 1889. She came to the United States in 1904 and grew up on a Grundy County farm.

She was married on March 5, 1908 to W. H. Brass, who passed away in 1947. They were the parents of five children, two of whom died in infancy. Three sons survive, George of Independence, Klaas and Willie of Ackley. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Albert Zacharias of Ackley and five grandchildren. Six brothers and five sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Brass had resided on the same Butler county farm since her marriage. She was a long time member of the West Friesland Church.

Services will be held at the West Friesland Church Friday at 1:30, conducted by the Rev. Norman Flink, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Prayer service for the family will be held at the Fritz Funeral Home at 1 p.m.
