Berend Lauterbach Died At Reinbeck, Ia., Thursday

Born in Germany, Lived Near Ackley Ten Years; Born in '56

Berend Lauterbach, who lived on a farm near Ackley for ten years and ten years west, near Iowa Falls, removing with his family to Reinbeck, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leo Meewes, east of Reinbeck, on Thursday, Nov. 26. He and Mrs. Lauterbach had gone to the daughter's home to spend the winter. Ill of a heart trouble during the past four years.

Born June 10, 1856, in East Friesland, Germany; serving the accustomed time in the German army, an accident befel him; it was necessary to amputate one foot--caught and crushed by a falling horse. This necessitated a change in his plans and instead of becoming a seaman, he learned to be a cigar-maker; for several years conducting his own shop and business. He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Siegmund; six sons were born to them. She died in January, 1893; married to Mina Baesecks--and seven children were born to them. They came to America in 1900 directly to a farm near Ackley.

Surviving children are Henry, Guy, and Herman, Reinbeck, Ben Jr., of Gladbrook, Gus, Aitkens, Minn., Mrs. Martha Thiessen, Rice, Minn., Martin, Iowa Falls, Mrs. Helen Wyatt and Mrs. Ida Porter, Waterloo, Ed, Mrs. Erna Meewes and Mrs. Anna Storjohann, all of Reinbeck. Also three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Joe Habben, Renville, Minn., Mrs. Helen Schwade, Nora Springs, Iowa, Mrs. Esther Arend, East Friesland, Germany, and Ed Lauterbach, Parkersburg.

Funeral services were held the following day afternoon, at the Congregational church, Rev. R. C. Hufstader in charge.
