Mrs. John Rotgers

After an illness of less than a week, Mrs. Hisha Rotgers, nee Geiken, died at her home in Ackley, Iowa, on Wednesday morning, August 5, 1931. She attained an age of 72 years, 1 month and 5 days. Mrs. Rotgers was born July 1, 1859 in Wiebelsum, Kreis Emden, Eastfriesland, Germany. In September, 1880 she was united in marriage to John Rotgers. Their home was blessed with ten children, one of which died in infancy.

In 1889 she came with her husband and children to America, and they settled in the neighborhood of Ackley, in the vicinity of which she lived until her death. Her husband passed away on June 17, 1923 in the hospital at Hampton, Iowa, after he had undergone an operation.

In May 1890 she and her husband joined the Westfriesland church. She was also a member of the Missionary Society of St. John's church. She was a good mother and neighbor.

There remain to mourn her passing her children: Rotger of Austinville, Mrs. John Shugar, Engelhart of Waterloo, Katie, Dick, Mrs. Frank Pohlman, Ruth, Mrs. Floyd Green of Steamboat Rock and Mrs. Henry Boekholder, 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, besides two brothers, Evert Geiken, who was making his home with her and John Geiken from Billings, Montana, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon in Westfriesland church led by the pastor, Henry Johnson, and by Rev. E. Seybold of Ackley.

Her remains were laid to rest at the side of her husband, in the family lot of the Westfriesland cemetery.
