Wiard Herman Brass was born on the 14th day of October, 1876, in Nachusa County, Ill. At the age of six years he came with his parents to this vicinity. Four years were later spent in Bremer county. Forty years of the sixty years spent in this vicinity were devoted to the old home farm in Butler county. For a considerable time Mr. Brass's health was failing and one can more plainly see the fulfillment of the words of Job 14:5--"Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee; Thou has appointed his bounds that he cannot pass."

Upon the 5th day of March, 1908, W. H. Brass was united in marriage to Kate Hertema by the Rev. Mr. Agena, who was then pastor of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church. On the first day of January, 1911, Mr. and Mrs. Brass joined the West Friesland Presbyterian Church upon confession of their faith in Christ. For a number of years Mr. Brass was West Friesland Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Brass passed away Friday evening, July 18, at 8 o'clock. He arrived at the age of 70 years, 9 months, 4 days.

To this union five children were born, two having preceded him in death. Those surviving him are his beloved wife, 3 sons: Klaas, George, and Willie, all of Ackley; by 4 grandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. Hilka Hook of Aplington. One sister, Mrs. Maggie Peters, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at West Friesland Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Peter Eekhoff having charge. Interment was in the church cemetery adjoining.
