Services Held Wednesday For Gesina Tjaden

Gesina Tjaden, 81, passed away Monday, June 27, 1983 at Maple Manor in Aplington, IA where she had been a resident. She had suffered from a lingering illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 29th at the Reformed Church of Stout with Pastor Don Ringnalda officiating.

Casket bearers were Gerald Tjaden, Harry Johnson, Jurgen Tjaden, Richard Lindaman, Marvin Flesner and Ronald DeBoer.

Interment was at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Wellsburg.

Gesina was born January 12, 1902, the daughter of Henry and Rixtelena Emkes Flesner, one mile west of Buck Grove, Grundy county.

She attended a country school near Buck Grove.

On January 18, 1923, she was united in marriage to Fred Tjaden at the home of the bride's parents in Buck Grove. This union was blessed with two daughters, Elma and Helena. They farmed in Buck Grove, Stout and Clarksville. In 1966 they retired and moved back to Stout to live.

Gesina was a member of the Reformed Church of Stout.

She is survived by two daughters, Elma, Mrs. Fred Marks of Roscoe, IL; and Helena, Mrs. Harold Rindels of Wellsburg; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Rena DeBoer of Aplington, Mrs. Fanny Lindaman of Waterloo and Mrs. Henrietta Nevenhoven of Aplington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Harm; her husband, Fred Tjaden, who died June 13, 1969; and three grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Schwartz-Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg.
