Herman Bakker Dead

The death of Herman Bakker at St. Francis hospital in Waterloo which occurred last Saturday was not unexpected by his friends though the end came some what sooner than had been anticipated.

The cause of death is given by the hospital physicians as cancer of the left eye and face.

Mr. Bakker had been ailing for a number of months, but his trouble was not believed to be so serious until attending physicians pronounced his disease cancer. The physician at that time gave no hope of permanent relief.

On March 28, Mr. Bakker entered St. Francis hospital, where he died June 8, 1918.

Mr. Bakker had been a resident of this town for about 35 years with some absences of a few years in Dakota and elsewhere.

He was about 64 years of age. He came from Germany when about 30 years old, and was often the recipient of considerable sums of money from his people there.

The body was brought to Wellsburg from Waterloo on the noon train last Monday, June 9, and the funeral was held at 7:30 the same evening.

The services were conducted by the Rev. Wm. Landsiedel and interment was made in the Wellsburg cemetery. The pall bearers were Ben Peters, Tom Beecroft, Chris Neessen, H. G. Geerdes, W. A. Meyer and Wm. Lindaman.
