Ardith Vera Culbertson, 85, of Gladbrook, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away on Thursday, January 14th at the Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 19th at 11:00 AM at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, 509 4th St., Grundy Center, IA. Memorial visitation will be held on Monday, January 18th from 5 to 7 PM at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated to a charity of their choice at a later time.

Ardith was born on November 2, 1930 in Garber, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur & Viola (Rizor) Parkinson. She was raised in northeast Iowa and graduated from the West Central High School in Maynard, Iowa in 1949. On June 17, 1951, Ardith was united in marriage to Wilbur Max Culbertson in Fayette. The couple welcomed two daughters into their family. Ardith worked for many years at City Laundry in Oelwein. The family relocated to Grundy Center in 1956. She worked for Plastronics, Frederick Furniture & Manly Drug, all in Grundy Center.

She enjoyed the outdoors, flowers, cleaning her home to where it was spotless and listening to old country music. Her true talent and best hobby was sewing, where she learned as a young child and sewed many outfits for her daughters.

Ardith is survived by her daughters Kathy Dolash of Grundy Center and Karen (Russ) Mercer of Holland; grandchildren Jenny (Nick) Franzoni of Peoria, IL, Jason (Hannah) Dolash of Clinton, IA, Brandon (Danielle) Mercer of Westboro, WI & Aaron (Timber) Mercer of Wellsburg, IA; great-grandchildren Lucca Franzoni, Haylee Dolash, Hunter & Averyanna Mercer and Ella Mercer; step great-granddaughter Nikki Goldwoon; sister Eunice Taylor of Cedar Rapids, IA & brother Delbert (Gwen) Parkinson of Phillip, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wilbur; brother Dallas Parkinson and sisters Anita Mae Parkinson, Joyce Whitney, Shirley Doughty, Mardelle Meredith, Melody Wilbur & Delinda Sergeant.
