Rites Held For Alyda Engelkes

Alyda Lillian Engelkes, 79, of Grundy Center, passed away on Thursday, September 3 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held September 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf officiating. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Pallbearers were Donald Koch, Daryl Tammen, Paul Eberline, Mark Eberline, Paul Engelkes, and Bernard Engelkes.

She was born the daughter of Elso E. and Grace Dieken Groote on March 15, 1913 in Colfax Township. She attended school in Lincoln township. On February 10, 1939 she married Omke B. Engelkes in Grundy Center. She was a member of Ruth Circle and the Presbyterian Womens Assoc., and the Lincoln Township Womens Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Omke on March 29 , 1969; 5 brothers, Elso, Harry, William, Arthur and Andrew; and 1 sister Irene Koch.

She is survived by her son, Roger of Grundy Center; two grandsons, Robert of rural route Dike, and Brent of Grundy Center; one granddaughter, Sheri of Columbia, MO; and one great-grandson, Ryan of rural route Dike.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
